                                             Current Opportunity:

Whispering Cedars Ranch (WCR) challenges the paradigm of first-generation agriculture start-ups. Through our relationships and growth, we assist in transforming a 10,000-year-old industry. Partially through going back to the roots to sequester carbon into grassroots and partially by breaking the mould and modernizing the way it has always been done. WCR is an expanding family-owned, female-led sheep enterprise, seeking a Shepherd/Farmhand to assist with our custom solar grazing business and on-farm related duties.

If you join our team, we commit that:

  • Your family becomes ours, and it is put first

  • Your safety is important to us, and we demand you go home slightly wiser but with all the amenities you came to work with.

  • We will never ask you to do anything that puts you in harm's way, and it's an expectation and your right to challenge us if you feel we aren't living up to this commitment.

  • You will learn something every day.

  • No two days in the week will be the same. The exception may be at lambing, but they are so cute it will not matter.

  • You will be on the cutting edge in agriculture and have the opportunity to work with and influence some of the newest tec

  • hnologies.

  • We are communicating regularly, sitting down to talk about your dreams monthly, and reviewing compensation annually.

  • As we grow, you are on the journey with us and will have the opportunity to build your own adventure.

You should know:

  • You will become a Jill or Jack of all trades. Ranchers also learn to step in for mechanics, veterinarians, welders, IT specialists, accountants, equipment operators, and nutritionists.

  • You will save on a gym membership as an average day will net you over 10,000 steps.

  • We understand that once you have settled in, you will make an Astronaut jealous of your talents and wide range of duties. Although agriculture cannot pay like going to space, we will work with the right candidate on a total package.

  • You are going to have some incredible days! This role has some serious ups, from running advanced equipment and technology to delivering lambs, bottle feeding, and shepherding on utility-scale solar farms.

  • You are going to have some really tough days. Working with livestock also means deadstock, which can be challenging with the bond you will create with the animals. High-stress situations, compounded with long days, will make it crucial to be open to sharing headspace with each other over a coffee.

  • This job isn't 9-5. But we will work with you to make it work for you. There will be long days and nights when lambing, weighing, or shipping takes place, followed by flexible time off for you to spend time with your family.

  • Once you are comfortable with the day-to-day operations, we will share in vacation time, potentially giving you the reins to run the operation.

  • With our hard work, WCR has an aggressive 10-year growth strategy that isn't limited to Agriculture, and you will be front row to develop and be part of the opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Live, love, and work safely.

  • Live, love, and thrive on learning openly

  • We won't make you complete in a strong-person event. However, you will need to lift bags up to 25 kg at times.

  • Ok with getting your hands dirty. It's a farm; there is poop.

  • We love to party, but while we understand many things are legal in Canada, it is a contractual obligation you pass a drug test at any time.

  • Can't be Mario Andretti on the road. Must have a class 5 and clean driver abstract.

Nice to haves:

  • Have sheep experience but are willing to teach and be coached in different techniques. If you are actively farming, disclosure is required and doesn't disqualify you, but a biosecurity work plan will be required.

  • Experience operating and performing daily maintenance on equipment.

  • First aid and CPR qualifications.

  • If you don't have the above, exciting, you will be mentored and coached by the business owners.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and take discrimination seriously. It doesn't matter to us who you love, how you identify, who you believe in, where you are from, what you look like, or what you came from. We believe diversity makes us all stronger.
